Interesting, contemporary cafe type restaurant in the middle of the old city. On a corner it has a commanding view of the people passing by on two streets. It's very open, airy and lots of large windows.
What's interesting is the it seems connected to the adjacent shop so people just pass right through from one to the other.
The menu is quite good and the offerings at the large counter look delicious.
We had lunch and ordered/shared a panini and it was well prepared and tasty. Also got some crisps and some greens with it.
Washed it down with Fentimans (THE British soft drink of choice) "Victorian Lemonade".
Service was friend although a little slow.
Nonetheless I would go back -

Lovely place with a beautiful atmosphere! We went in late afternoon, and the cafe was quiet and filled with natural light. There's a boutique within the cafe as well, if individuals wish to peruse clothing and unique gifts.
Two of my friends shared a pot of tea, and it was enough for them to each have two and a half cups of tea each. I, myself, enjoyed the Victorian Lemonade, which was bubbly, and just the right amount of sweetness and acidity.
I so desperately wish to give them four stars, but where they excel in ambiance and service, they lack in their actual cakes. Although beautiful, the cakes were all very dry, and we couldn't figure out why until we stayed till closing. At the end of the day, they literally pick up their cakes, and put them in plastic bins to resell the next day! I'm not sure on how hygienic this practice is, but it certainly didn't aid in the texture of the cakes. -

Passable but disappointing experience.
Weekday lunchtime visit.
Service: Staff overwhelmed by not overwhelming crowd. Hard to get servers' attention.
Atmosphere: Lovely light pouring through huge, tall windows. Pretty wooden counter w/ display of cakes and salads. This is a nice place to nibble, visit, and read for awhile. Solo diners, museum tourists, retirees, long table of babies and mums. Ambient noise was nice but might be a bit loud for the taste (or hearing) of some.
Food. So-so. Salad taster plate drowning in dressing yet relatively flavorless, definitely needed more seasoning and less oil. Pesto bland bland bland, pasta a bit mealy. Parmesan toast was excellent. Cake, well, so unremarkable that my daughter can't remember which kind she had, something I can't remember ever happening before.
Coffee: Americano was mediocre. And not hot enough. Even w/o milk.
Summary: Has potential to be better. Shape up, Cafe Luca! -

Had lunch there this afternoon. 1/3/13. Vegetable and leek soup was yummy. My herb chicken Panini was delicious. Well worth the price. Great atmosphere.
